On 28 July, the new All Party Parliamentary sub-group focusing on the Chinese in Britain was launched at Portcullis House, hosted and chaired by Mark Hendrick MP. He was fulsome in his support and praise for the UK Chinese community's economic and cultural contributions over the years.

Chinese Liberal Democrat Executive member Cllr Allan Siao Ming Witherick will be one of the group leaders later this month for the UK-China 400 programme visiting China with the topic "Environment and Healthy Lifestyle". This links well to Allan's other roles which include being the Shadow Cabinet member for Adult Care Services and Health in Hertfordshire and last year when he chaired the International Youth Forum on Climate Change in Korea.

An average of five polls conducted immediately after the Sky TV Leaders Election debate on Thursday night put Nick Clegg as the winner, with all instant polls showing him ahead of Gordon Brown. After the Foreign Affairs-led debate from Bristol dominated by issues like Iraq, immigration and climate change, Nick Clegg won 3 of the 5 polls on the night, building on his position after the first debate.
