Hello Year of Rabbit! CLD LNY banquet on 26 January 2023
We would like to thank everyone who came to support our in person celebrations after a 3 year hiatus. We were initially planning for maybe 30-40 guests but ended up with a packed out event of 7 tables of 10 at the legendary "Dumplings Legends" on Gerrard Street taking over the whole of the 1st floor of the restaurant.
This might have been partly due to the draw of our dynamic guest speaker, Cllr Hina Bokhari AM, as well as the support from LDCRE (LibDem Campaign for Race Equality) and local parties. Guests were drawn from diverse background, not just Chinese, but also from the Vietnamese diaspora communities, founder of LD Friends of Taiwan, Jonathan Philip Bird, Chair of the Federal International Relations Committee, David Chalmers, as well freelance journalist, Yue He Parkinson.
Stemming from the evening, we now have a CLD HongKong sub-group spear-headed by new member, Kevin Lam to compile resources and develop strategies to support those recently settled in the UK. Finally we are pleased to share that at our recent executive meeting, CLD Treasurer Emma YuLian Ng reported that we cleared over £1200 in profits from the dinner, with donations from the raffle and an online silent auction. Prizes included a coaching session from Vice-Chair, Victoria Collins and Chinese language class from Chair Sarah Cheung Johnson. Artist Helena Hung had also kindly donated her painting and share of proceeds from sale of her cards. All funds raised will go towards CLD grants to support candidates from E and SE Asian background in coming elections.
