Lunar New Year Messages from Brian Paddick and Merlene Emerson

Brian Paddick, Candidate for Mayor of London 2012 said:
"I would like to wish everyone in London and across the UK a very happy Chinese New Year and hope that 2012 will bring you all joy and success!
"I look forward to working with the Chinese community to help businesses thrive, improve public transport and make London a safer place by reducing crime and ensuring the safety of the millions of visitors we expect in this Olympic year. Should you elect me I will ensure that the issues of concern to the Chinese community are high on my agenda as Mayor of London.
"I believe that London is culturally richer and our economy stronger from the contributions made by the Chinese in UK. May I wish you all a happy and prosperous 2012!"
Merlene Emerson, Chair of Chinese Lib Dems and Candidate for the London Assembly added:
"The Dragon, a creature of myth and legend, is said to be a deliverer of good fortune; is brave, passionate and enterprising. Certainly qualities that we all will need to meet the challenges of the day.
"This year, the Year of the Dragon will be a momentous year with the Queen celebrating her Diamond JubiIee and London playing host to the 2012 Olympics. It is also the 40th anniversary of full diplomatic relations between UK and China, with a series of events planned to promote closer trade links and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
"The economic forecasts may be grim but it also provides an opportunity for UK to rebalance its economy and reassess what is important for our society.
"Let us therefore enter the Year of the Dragon with boldness and with positive thoughts for the future.
"May I wish everyone a Happy and Prosperous New Year! Xin Nian Kuai Le, Wan Shi Ru Yi!"
