In celebration of the Chinese New Year, strengthening Chinese participation in UK politics and campaigning on issues impacting the UK Chinese, the Chinese Liberal Democrats ('CLDs') hosted a Chinese New Year Banquet at the Grand Imperial Restaurant on 12th February 2013.

Phil Ling, Chair of the CLDs, delivered a welcome speech to distinguished guests. The Rt. Hon. Jeremy Browne MP, Minister of State for the Home Office, was invited as the keynote speaker. Minister Browne said:

"I am delighted to be celebrating the new year of the Snake with the Chinese Liberal Democrats. I look forward to discussing the important work that the CLD engage in, particularly in strengthening our ties to Asia Pacific and to the growing Chinese community here in the UK."

Tim Farron MP, President of the Liberal Democrats, was Guest Auctioneer for the evening to help raise funds for the Chinese Liberal Democrats campaigns within the Chinese community.

In the New Year of the Snake, the CLDs will continue to make an effort to strengthen relationships with local Chinese communities, to work with business groups from the Asia Pacific, making the most of those economic and trading opportunities, and to deepen greater engagement and participation by British Chinese at different levels of government.
