Oriental City at 399 Edgware Road, Colindale

16 Jun 2012

Chinese Liberal Democrats Co-founders, Cllr Linda Chung and Merlene Toh Emerson, commented as follows on unveiling of the proposed new development on the former Oriental City site by the owners Development Securities:

"We were delighted to have been shown plans for the revival of the Oriental City mixed development on 399 Edgware Road. This was a landmark retail development that catered to the needs of the Chinese and SE Asian population of North London and the new development will no doubt go some way in meeting the current gap in the market.

The previous restaurants and retails units formed a unique centre for the community far and wide, and was sadly missed when it was closed for potential re-development. It has been closed for a long time but it is encouraging to see that the owners, Development Securities, have produced fresh proposals which will include a far-eastern retail concept and food courts to be at the heart of the project.

They will be going out to consultation shortly with local residents and stakeholders - we appreciate this opportunity to have input.

The approval of the plans will be ultimately be dependent on Brent Council, but we hope that all parties will bear in mind the needs of the Chinese and SE Asian community, and that achieving the success of a vibrant development be in the interests of everyone, and for that important corner of London.

We are therefore happy to offer support to ensure that all interests are fully considered."
