Rabbit says "Yes" to Fairer Votes

Thursday 3 February was the first day of the Lunar New Year of the Rabbit. Jonathan Bartley representing Fairer Votes, Neil Lawson of Compass, Simon Woolley of OBV, Jonathan Fryer and I came together to hold a press conference in Chinatown. Joined across the parties, we wished the community a "Happy New Year" and presented the case for AV.

The benefits of AV were well understood to include giving voters a choice, to ensure fewer safe seats so that MPs will have to work harder for us. In the Q&A which followed, journalists from BBC World Service and the Chinese press asked, amongst other things, whether it might lead to more hung Parliaments, if the Chinese population would be able to understand this new voting system and how confident we were of winning the referendum.

Meanwhile Chinese Lib Dems has helped Fairer Votes send out letters to over 100 Chinese community centres across the country with new year greetings, complimentary red packets and information on AV.

And on Sunday 6 Feb, we had a joint stall with BC Project in the heart of Chinatown by the Pavilion, where DJ Joseph Wu (in full costume as the God of Wealth) broadcast messages on Spectrum Radio the importance of the May 5 Referendum. Not only did the Rabbit say "Yes!", but the Money God managed to get general passers by joining in too!
