The recent and spreading rioting, looting and violence is completely indefensible and makes one wonder what is happening in the UK when communities are closing down and streets left to yobs. Are our streets becoming dominated by youths from Lord of the Flies?
I am writing this on the 22nd anniversary of 'Six Four' (the codename for the Tian An Men incident that occurred on 4th of June 1989). Perhaps no better day to reflect on the subject of media censorship in China and to question the role of international broadcasters?
On 18 May 2011, Malaysian-born Cllr Helen Chuah was inaugurated as the first ever Mayor of Colchester to have been born outside of the UK as well as the first Chinese Liberal Democrat Mayor in the UK.
On May 5th 2011 Cllr Sam Li was successfully re-elected to Lewes Town Council for a historic third term.
Joint Chinese Liberal Democrat membership officers Yeing-Lang and Roger Crouch met up with members of the newly formed Hong Kong branch of Liberal Democrats Abroad on their recent trip to HongKong. Whilst the branch is a new one, the Liberal Democrats (and before the merger, the SDP and Liberal Parties) have been active in Hong Kong since the 1980s. When he was leader, Paddy Ashdown was a frequent visitor and obtained a high profile, given his Mandarin language skills, in Hong Kong particularly following the events of 1989.
